Job Summary

This role is integral to the creative development of all in-house art & design conceptualization created for Universal Beijing Resort’s entertainment department and the execution of them, including shows, seasonal events, festival decors and activities, movie premieres, immersive experiences, and other entertainment offerings. Creative subjects include Universal Park & Resort brand, Universal Studios IPs and other top ACGN IPs around the world, and all kinds of commercial brands.

Working closely with the Art Director and the Creative Director / Snr. Show Directors, you and the team will be responsible for creating concept artwork, model and renderings of scenic sets, themed buildings, stages, decorations & props, for various kinds of shows, events and other experiential entertainment formats, overseeing and managing experienced vendors to ensure designs are executed in world class production quality.

You must come from either theme park, theatre / film, architecture, event / show, commercial and exhibition or other relevant background. You need to be a clear communicator, can take directions and work with others effortlessly. You will bring energy and enthusiasm to the role while managing multiple creative projects simultaneously.

Major Responsibilities

• Responsible for creating and delivering the design & artistic vision of the entertainment department under the direction of the Art Director, from concept to completion.

• Produce scenic designs, show design, event design, stage designs, using various mediums including mood board, reference images, concept sketch & artwork, 3D model & renderings (if applicable), graphic design (if applicable), etc.

• In design phase, collaborate extensively with multiple internal stakeholders, including Creative Director, Show Directors, Writers, and Production, Technical and Operation teams.

• In execution phase, collaborate with Production and Technical team to manage vendors in terms of design supports and quality control, to realize the design visions.

• Creating and managing all work-related materials in a cohesive and well-organized content catalogues for all project related artistic concepts, and presentations from concept phase to final product phase.

• Be able to understand the specialty of each collaborative IP and maintain their integrity throughout the whole project duration and be able to source and utilize right elements from given / existing asset pool and IP style guides.

• On-site overseeing and directing during installation & construction phase

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3-5 years professional experience as designer for entertainment industry including theme park, theatre, film & tv, architecture, etc.

• A strong portfolio exhibiting experience, good aesthetic taste & creativity in the format of Art & Design deliverables including but not limited to creative sketch, concept art & illustration, 3D model and renderings, Storyboard, etc. Need to have side-by-side comparison of design images and constructed project.

• Demonstrated research ability, innovation and creativity, and visual presentation skills.

• Demonstrated fondness and knowledge of film, animation, game, shows, popular culture and zeitgeist.

Strong Written & Oral Communication skills and Leading & Motivating teams.

• Being open-minded and having strong drive and self-learning ability. Stay informed of latest creative tools, aesthetic trends, entertainment products in all areas.

• Demonstrated strong computer proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office / Mac counterparts.

• Familiar with at least one of 3D software like SketchUp, 3DsMax, Blender, UE5, etc.; Being able to read construction drawings from a designer perspective.

• Excellent Working Ethic: Positive team player with strong interpersonal skills, exceptional communication skills; Ability to understand stakeholders’ needs and has a problem solver mindset; Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize；High sense of responsibility, well organized, and value accuracy.

• Fluency in Chinese and certain level of written and spoken English, proficient in working bilingually is a plus.

• 3D Modeling & Rendering / Graphic Design specialty is a plus.

Education

College diploma/degree or above in Entertainment Design or relevant field.
